This is a 12-month tenure-eligible faculty (Assistant or Associate Professor) Regular Title Series position in the Department of Veterinary Science’s Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center at the University of Kentucky. The Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center has an established national and international reputation in the equine reproduction field. The overall mission of the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center is to conduct research on diseases and other conditions that affect the health and welfare of the horse, which are consistent with the needs of the local, national, and international horse industry. Located in Central Kentucky, which is often called the Thoroughbred Capital of the World, researchers at the Gluck Center have a long tradition of carrying out field research with the support of local farms. In addition to these farms, the Department of Veterinary Science also maintains its own herd of horses available for both basic and applied research. As a department within the University of Kentucky, there is ready access to core research support facilities and expertise, as well as extensive collaborations with faculty throughout the campus, including at the University of Kentucky’s Medical Center and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
 

The initial appointment will be at the assistant or associate professor rank, with an annually expected assigned distribution of effort typically of 80% research, 15% teaching, and 5% service. The appointee will be administratively responsible to the Chair of the Department of Veterinary Science.
 

This appointee is expected to focus on advancing knowledge and understanding of equine reproductive physiology, pathology, and diseases. The dissemination of scientific information that will benefit the health and well-being of horses via peer-reviewed journal articles and other venues is expected. The appointee will be encouraged to collaborate with other faculty in the Department and elsewhere to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program in equine reproduction. The appointee will be expected to garner extramural funding for their research program and to interact with industry stakeholders. As a member of the Graduate Faculty of the University, the appointee is expected to participate in the training of graduate students and post-doctoral scholars/fellows. The appointee will also be expected to develop and teach course offering(s) in the undergraduate equine sciences and management program. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023, and the appointment is subject to formal approval by the University administration and the Board of Trustees.
