Assistant Professor of Retailing and Tourism Management

Location: Lexington, KY

The College of Agriculture Food & Environment Dept. of Retailing & Tourism Management is seeking a colleague for a 12-month Assistant Professor (Regular Title Series – Tenure Eligible) position in the Hospitality Management and Tourism Program within the Department of Retailing & Tourism Management (RTM) at the University of Kentucky.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will advise undergraduate students and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the HMT and RTM programs, as well as conduct research and service. Tenure-track faculty are expected to take responsibility for infusing diversity, scholarship, state-of-the-art issues and community service into the curriculum. The candidate is expected to contribute to student learning in a variety of areas including but not limited to hotel room division management, research methodology in human environmental sciences, data mining, strategic management in hospitality and food service, and social marketing. The candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats and work in a team-based environment.

The distribution of effort (DOE) is anticipated to be approximately 55 percent instruction, 35 percent research, and 10 percent service. The position teaches six credit hours (two courses) per semester and might teach during the summer sessions. The specific teaching and advising assignment are dependent on departmental needs and individual expertise and adjusted annually as needed.

The candidate is expected to conduct research, publish in peer-reviewed journals and other outlets, and seek and receive extramural funding. The candidate is expected to provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students, serve on departmental, college, and university committees and engage in other service activities over time.
 

The Department and University: The Hospitality Management & Tourism program, along with the Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles program, is part of the Department of Retailing and Tourism Management. There are currently 95 undergraduates majoring in Hospitality Management & Tourism and 294 students in Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles. There are 20 master’s degree graduate students.
