Location: Lexington, KY

The Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-eligible assistant professor position in the Regular Title Series. The position has an expected distribution of effort (DOE) of approximately 20% instruction, 75% research, and 5% service through annual agreement with the Department Chair. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024.

The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment and the Food as Health Alliance at the University of Kentucky are leading statewide efforts to connect agriculture, food, health, and nutrition to improve health outcomes, reduce food insecurity, and build a statewide approach to address social drivers of health. Directed by Dr. Alison Gustafson, Professor in Dietetics and Human Nutrition, the Alliance is bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals, insurance, industry, non-profit organizations, community-based organizations, and agriculture to address policy changes and opportunities to improve the health of Kentuckians. The Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition currently has 13 full time faculty engaged in diverse research related to mHealth and digital health interventions, weight loss clinical trials, community-based interventions in rural and urban areas, instruction, and sports nutrition.

The candidate is expected to expand upon, complement, and synergize with current strengths of the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition and bring new expertise and scholarship focused on food and nutrition security, health equity, social drivers of health, clinical trials, policy evaluation, food as medicine, mhealth or digital health, data science, and/or other relevant nutrition disciplines.

The successful candidate is expected to: 1) develop an externally funded research program with potential emphasis on Food as Health; food security; diet-sensitive chronic disease; 2) instruct upper level undergraduate or graduate courses with potential for online instruction; 3) mentor graduate student theses and evidence-based projects for students pursuing the MS in Nutrition and Food Systems; and 4) contribute to the multi-functional, land-grant mission of the Department through outreach and engagement efforts.
