Lecturer in Landscape Architecture

Location: Lexington, KY

The Position:  The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a one-year lecturer position with the potential for renewal into an additional year. Our new colleague will bring a teaching and scholarship agenda with an intellectual focus on geospatial analysis and data representation integrated into the landscape architectural design process across a range of scales. Complements to this focus area could include digital design visualization, modeling, or communication strategies. The new faculty colleague will teach in the design studio sequence in landscape architecture along with theory/methods/applications courses available to landscape architecture students and other majors. Scholarship in this position could center on innovation in methods, novel applications of geospatial and other techniques, or environmental design issues whose investigation involves geospatial analysis. The position has an expected distribution of effort (DOE) of approximately 75% instruction. The additional 25% of the DOE will include scholarship and/or additional service to the educational mission of the department through annual agreement with the department chair.

The Department seeks a colleague with academic and professional practice experience who can demonstrate the potential for success in a land grant university environment through excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university, profession, and public. This career-building position provides the opportunity for instructional development as well as scholarly and creative activities.

The Department and College: The LAAB accredited undergraduate landscape architecture program emphasizes creativity, technical competence, public participation, and environmental equity. The curriculum incorporates external experiences for students through internships, research experiences, and international study programs. Landscape Architecture has a tradition of community engagement and multiple studios incorporate varied service learning projects. Faculty research and service includes community design, geospatial analysis, design thinking, green infrastructure, nature play, and cultural landscapes.

The Department resides in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, which has complementary strengths and collaborative opportunities in environmental science, community development, biosystems engineering, horticulture, and other areas. Additional collaborative opportunities are available in the College of Design. The Arboretum, which is the State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, and many other off-campus college facilities enrich the department’s teaching and learning environments.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a professional degree in Landscape Architecture and have a terminal degree in Landscape Architecture or a related environmental design discipline. Significant academic or professional experience and licensure in landscape architecture is preferred.
