The Research Scientist I will plan and initiate research on community and economic development that supports CEDIK faculty and community organizations in Kentucky. The Research Scientist I will be responsible for leading economic analyses using Stata or other similar statistical software to contribute to economic development research that addresses the pressing issues facing Kentuckians and Rural America.
The Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK) seeks a highly qualified individual to join our team as a Research Scientist I. CEDIK is a unit in the College of Agriculture with faculty in three departments, Agricultural Economics, Landscape Architecture and Community and Leadership Development. CEDIK works closely with Cooperative Extension and with community organizations on projects that foster community and economic development throughout the state. CEDIK’s scope of work covers the land grant mission of the University: research, extension, and instruction.
CEDIK is led by an Executive Director, Associate Director, Strategy and Operations Director, Research Director, and Engagement Director. CEDIK’s research is typically supported through competitive grant funding as well as contracts awarded by organizations and communities within Kentucky. The Research Scientist I will work closely with CEDIK’s Research Director to design and implement economic research, analyze health and economic data using Stata and/or R, and contribute to peer-reviewed research and publications designed for policymakers and decision makers.
Education/experience: Master’s degree in Applied Economics, Public Policy or related degree expected. Minimum two years employment in a related field.
KSAs: Experience with descriptive statistics and database management. Proficient in Stata and/or R. Preferred experience with ArcMap or other GIS software and Tableau. Independent research experience strongly preferred.
Must be organized, able to prioritize work, and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must work well as a team player, and perform well under deadlines. The Research Scientist I will also be responsible for creating multiple products for the dissemination of research (traditional peer reviewed articles, policy briefs, webinars, Tableau visuals, etc).
