Location: Lexington, KY
The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, and the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment seek a Curator. The Curator will develop, expand and deliver formal and informal educational programming about The Arboretum’s natural resources for the community and the campus. Effective communication, collaboration, and interaction with diverse audiences including volunteers, visitors, students and university research/teaching staff is required. The Curator will lead the advancement, growth, and promotion of our notable native plants collection in the Walk Across Kentucky and the Arboretum Woods, while also performing curatorial functions for our horticultural plantings. The Arboretum’s signature collection, the Walk Across Kentucky (WAKY) Native Plant Collection, serves as a living laboratory for students, staff, faculty, visitors and volunteers.
The successful candidate:
- will have education and experience as a naturalist, in horticulture, forestry, or a closely related field
- will be curator for the native plant collection and horticultural gardens
- will interact with UK faculty, staff, students, visitors and volunteers to ensure our mission of education, conservation and research continues and advances
- will develop and implement extension and other educational programming about native plants, conservation and ecology
