Location: Lexington, KY

The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment department of Agriculture Economics seeks a Student Success Coordinator. The Student Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month appointment who reports to the Department Chair and works closely with the Work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) and Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) to assist students.
 

The position entails five crucial roles in the Agricultural Economics (AEC) undergraduate program:

 

  1. Engagement and Outreach
  2. Career Mentorship
  3. Student Development
  4. Course Instruction
  5. Recruitment and Retention

We seek candidates who will reach out to new and existing employers to nurture long-term recruiting relationships and identify mutually beneficial pairings of employers and students.
 

Experiential education is required of all AEC students, and includes internships, education abroad, and faculty-mentored research. The Coordinator manages the enrollment and mentoring of students for experiential education credit, promotes education abroad, and leads event planning for the annual Experiential Education Symposium.

Key Responsibilities:
 

Engagement and Outreach

  • Develop relationships with alumni, employers, and other stakeholders.
  • Organize career fair and other departmental events and collaborate with College and University events.
  • Cultivate an inventory of internship and post-graduation career opportunities and help with managing the internships.
  • Assist with newsletter publication and other departmental outreach efforts.

 

Career Mentorship and Student Development

  • Coordinate current student assistance and services.
  • Communicate with students and student organizations, develop internships and other experiential learning opportunities, and help match students with partner opportunities.
  • Coordinate trips with student officers of department student organizations (e.g., the Agribusiness Club, Graduate Student Organization, and the Academic Team) and instructors of faculty-led study abroad programs.
  • Advise to Chair in areas of curriculum, awards, and internships.

 

Instruction

  • Serve as a lead instructor for AEC 301 Career Readiness for Agricultural Economics, 100-level career course (to be developed).
  • Course coordinator for AEC 396 International Studies in Agricultural Economics and AEC 399 Experiential Learning in Agricultural Economics.

 

Recruitment and Retention

  • Collaborate with College Academic Administration and recruitment offices.
  • Work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) and Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) to assist prospective and current students.
  • Assist with creating and updating recruitment and retention materials and program website.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in administration, student services, or related field.
  • Commitment to students success and experiential education.
  • Enthusiasm for helping students and supportive interactions with students who have wide-ranging goals, experiences, and competencies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with Concur, PRD, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency in graphic design, marketing, and communication tools for social media, newsletter, website.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in higher education or a similar environment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
